The problem
At a law firm, the information about each matter tends to be spread across folders, spreadsheets and each lawyer's calendar. That makes it hard to know which deadlines fall due this week, where a case file stands or how much of an instalment-based fee is still owed. Legal Casum brings that information together and organises it by client and by case file.
What it does
Home dashboard
Case files, pending deadlines, the month’s billing and balance, upcoming due dates and income over the last twelve months.
Clients
Individuals and companies, with search and pagination.
Case files
Create, edit and change the status of case files, with attachments per file.
Deadline calendar
Each case file’s deadlines, as a list and as a monthly view.
Filings
A timeline of what happened in each case file.
Accounting
Income recorded by receipt or invoice, expenses, and fees with instalments and payments.
Users and roles
Administrator, secretary, lawyer and trainee. Only the administrator manages users, and trainees cannot change data.
How it is built
- Angular 22 front end with Angular Material. ASP.NET Core back end on .NET 10, layered into API, business, data and entities.
- SQL Server, with data logic in stored procedures.
- JWT sessions, passwords hashed with PBKDF2-SHA256 and a per-IP limit on sign-in attempts.
- Attachments are kept in private storage and downloaded through the API, with a 10 MB limit and a check of each file’s real type.
- Automated tests on the front end and back end, deployed in Docker containers.
Status and authorship
Legal Casum started in 2022 as the team’s own system, on Angular 13 and .NET 5. In 2026 it was modernised to Angular 22 and .NET 10 and published as a demo with fictitious data. It is not a commercial product in production: it shows how we approach a management system for a law practice.
